穩定同位素在分析中應用于光譜分析,核磁共振分析,密度分析,氣相色譜分析,質譜分析,中子活化分析,紅外光譜分析,氣相色譜-質譜分析,稀釋分析等。
穩定性同位素及其化合物之間的化學性質和生物性質是相同的,只是具有不同的核物理性質。因此,可以用穩定性同位素作為示蹤原子,制成含有穩定性同位素的標記化合物,利用其與相應非標記元素的不同特性,通過質譜儀、核磁共振儀等分析儀器來測定穩定同位素反應后的位置、數量及其轉變量等,從而了解反應的機理、途徑、效果等。
元素的同位素組成常用同位素豐度表示,同位素豐度是指一種元素的同位素混合物中,某特定同位素的原子數與該元素的總原子數之比。
